Designed by Sabina Savage, The Lunar Leopard draws inspiration from the art, symbolism, and storytelling of Edo-period Japan. At the center of the design stands a majestic clouded leopard, his slightly stooped posture and alert expression conveying unease as he enters unfamiliar territory.

Perched upon his back, a leopard tortoise holds a long, tasselled rope knotted in the style of samurai armor. At the leopard’s feet, two ship rats mirror this tension—one curling into a protective disguise inspired by intricate circular tsuba (traditional sword guards) that form the decorative border of the design.

Above, swallows sweep across a star-filled midnight sky as willow branches drift and a crescent moon glows softly in the distance. Traditional Nobori flags, adorned with woodblock-style prints and mounted on bamboo poles, frame the scene in reference to Tango no Sekku celebrations. Throughout the artwork, Japanese hand-script annotations echo 17th-century zoological manuscripts, while a handwritten haiku and a hanko stamp bearing the name Sabina Savage complete the composition.

Crafted from luxurious 14 momme silk twill, this classic 90cm square scarf offers a fluid drape, subtle sheen, and exceptional depth of color. Each piece is finished with expertly hand-rolled edges, a signature of Sabina Savage craftsmanship.
